Cooney faces West Bend West tonight at home; both teams 1-0 in WLT
Cooney head boys soccer coach Andrew Biebel said after his team’s 3-3 tie with Sun Prairie last Thursday, “It was a good game for us against a quality team.” Added Biebel, “We went down early and battled back to tie the match at 2-2 at the half.” Paolo Olivier scored the first goal for OHS and Dominic Briggs had goal No. 2 with an assist from his brother and fellow sophomore, Cameron.
In the second half, Sun Prairie scored when OHS was caught “ball-watching,” said Biebel. Cooney tied the match when Dominic Briggs scored on a mistake by the Cardinals goalkeeper.
Despite the tie, Biebel said after the match, “Overall, it was a good game for us, which we needed after a poor effort against Mukwonago.” That nonconference match at OHS ended in a 0-0 tie.
The nonconference match against the Cardinals left OHS with a 2-0-2 record heading into tonight’s Wisconsin Little Ten matchup against West Bend West at OHS. OHS and West are both 1-0 in the WLT, West beat Wisconsin Lutheran in its WLT opener, Sept. 1, 4-1. Cooney opened its WLT season last week, also on Sept. 1, with a 4-0 shutout of Slinger. On the season West is 1-3. In its most recent nonconference match, it fell 5-0 to Sussex Hamilton.
