Four seek District 4 aldermanic post vacated by Dave Nold; special election set for Oct. 13

Group includes former aldermen John Gross and Robert Morgan, plus unsuccessful mayoral hopefuls Kevin Ellis and Jason Mauer

Four people  filed papers Tuesday seeking the unexpired term of former District 4 alderman, now mayor, Dave Nold.

Tonight, the common council, after some discussion, voted to hold a special primary election on Oct. 13 to whittle the field down to two finalists who will face off in a primary election on Nov. 17.

Filing papers were two former District 4 aldermen, Robert Morgan and John Gross, and two newcomers, Kevin Ellis and Jason Mauer.

Morgan was a member of the council from 2004 until 2014 when he was upset in a bid for reelection by Charlie Shaw. Gross, currently a member of the community development authority, stepped away from his aldermanic seat in 2008, after having served on the council since 1989.

Ellis and Mauer are both former candidates for mayor. Ellis sought the council appointment that went to Nold in July of this year. Mauer was an unsuccessful write-in candidate against Daley in 2013.
