Junior Sam Garcia (#10) battles a Mukwonago defender in a match earlier this season. Garcia scored the only Cooney goal Tuesday night at OHS beat West Bend West, 1-0.

Win leaves team unbeaten this season and 2-0 and in first place in the WLT

A surprisingly tough West Bend West boys varsity soccer team gave OHS a battle Tuesday night in a Wisconsin Little Ten conference matchup at OHS before Cooney junior Sam Garcia was able to score the match’s only goal to give the host team a 1-0 win.

It was Garcia’s first goal so far this season and it came at the right time as OHS improved to 2-0 in conference and 3-0-2 overall. OHS beat Slinger in its WLT opener Sept. 1, 4-0. West falls to to 1-1 in the WLT and 1-4 overall. It beat Wisconsin Lutheran, 4-0, in its WLT opener Sept. 1.

Gracia’s goal also leaves OHS in first place in the conference and unbeaten on the season, with only two ties, both in nonconference matches, marring its 2015 season record.

The shutout Cooney win also means OHS, behind goalkeeper Josh Bobke, has yet to surrender a goal in conference action.

Tonight Oconomowoc travels to Germantown to face the Warhawks in a nonconference match at 7 p.m. Germantown is 1-3-3 on the season. Its only win came in the season opener on Aug. 25 against West Bend East, 2-0. East is a member of the Wisconsin Little Ten.
