The Oconomowoc girls varsity tennis team is enjoying a successful Wisconsin Little Ten conference opening with recent victories over Slinger (4-3), West Bend West (4-3) ,and Wisconsin Lutheran high (7-0).

Seniors and co-captains, Emily Kneiser and Heidi Tremaine. playing in the top singles positions along with the No. 1 doubles team of juniors Ali Harwood and Alexa Sabel are leading the team with effective serving, finishing volleys, and focused determination.

Kate Eichsteadt, a natural competitor and a freshman, has brought a spark of positive energy to every match she plays. At the present time, her 12-0 record at No. 3 singles reflects the hard work she has put in learning and practicing the game prior to her first year as a high school athlete.

Completing the singles line up is another up and coming freshman, Sophie Tesch. Sophie is playing every match with a winning attitude and learning how to apply a game plan strategy on a consistent basis.

Completing the Lady Raccoons line-up for the team are the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams of seniors Gabby Brucker and Hannah Meyer, and Yukido Ikeda (senior) and Lexi Miller (junior) respectively. Finding the right compatible skill sets and personalities early in the season is challenging and based on recent winning flights with these two teams all seems good.

Gabby is bringing a desire to “make things happen” while Hannah is using quickness and great eye-hand coordination to complement their mutual desire to finish points with a two-shot attack.

Yukiko and Lexi are a recent pairing and thus far have proven to be unbeaten. Using consistent serving, controlling the net with well-executed volleys and applying our “ win it in two shots” game plan is bringing them success.

The team will be a host site this upcoming Saturday for the Hartford/Oconomowoc Varsity Invitational with play beginning at 9 a.m. Oconomowoc will be playing Monona Grove, Muskego and Madison East as play progresses throughout the day.
